César Latorre
César Latorre - Pianist, Composer, Producer, and Educator
César Latorre is a jazz pianist, composer, producer, arranger, and educator based in northern Spain. His musical training spans classical and jazz, which he studied in Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United States with renowned teachers such as Roberto Méndez, Hal Galper, Wolfgang Koller, Kriss Goesens, Jason Moran, Ethan Iverson, John Taylor, Kenny Werner, Franz van der Hoeven, John Clayton, and Bill Carothers.
Throughout his career, César has collaborated with musicians from various styles and backgrounds, including Sheila Jordan, Michael Mossman, Tino di Geraldo, David Pastor, Lucia Martinez, Petros Klampanis, Kirby Shaw, Antonio Hart, Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Artis Orubs, Daniel García, Pepa Niebla, Roberto Nieva, and many others. His participation in international competitions, such as the YPF Jazz Piano International Competition and the Hoielaart Jazz Contest, has earned him awards and enthusiastic praise from both the public and the jury.
César has released several projects in the fields of jazz, pop, and world music. His albums Collage and Fastforwardtogether with Artis Orubs and Petros Klampanis, were released on the Free Code Jazz label. In 2022 he presented his solo piano album 'Lucidity', which includes original compositions and arrangements of 80s and contemporary pop music. In addition, he is a member of the international quartet Nostos, with whom he has released the albums Nostos and Nostos Live, the first releases on his own record label, Meidinerz Records founded with double bass player Horacio García. The label, based in Gijón, is preparing to release in 2024 works by Guillermo Celano Cuarteto, Natalio Sued Complot, and the new album by the César Latorre Trio.
His experience in the world of dance includes collaborations with prestigious companies and schools such as English National Ballet, Sadler's Wells, The Place, and Michael Clark, among others. As an educator, he has taught at institutions like Amsterdam Muziekschool (Amsterdam), Merton Music Foundation (London), and TAI (Madrid), and has led improvisation workshops in Portugal, Greece, Spain, Latvia, and Mexico. Currently, he continues to train new generations of musicians in Asturias.
César has also worked on instant film scores, creating new instant music for classic films like Metropolis, The General, Modern Times and Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, which have been featured at festivals such as SACO and the Princess of Asturias Awards. His music can also be heard in the internationally distributed documentary ¿Oído? Ellas, la voz de la gastronomía by Sara Cucala. In the theater world, he has composed music for several productions, and in December 2024, he will premiere the soundtrack for Lady Hitchcock with the Mono Escena company at Teatro Jovellanos in Gijón.
